According to bandmates, they had "Leftoverture" done, in the can, finished. Packing up the stuff to leave the studio. Without "Carry on My Wayward Son."

Kerry walks in with it, from working on it the night before..... ONE night. One night of final inspiration. He had the entire song written, mapped and arranged. Showed it to them.

Dropped their jaws. Couldn't believe it. Instant mega hit, massive hook song all the way through it.... and he did it in one night. On the last night before leaving with the album done.

Musical genius.
